To Edinburgh via Glencoe routes

 
1. Head out of Plockton and over the bridge at the station. Carry on to the bridge at Duirnish and
    either: turn right through Duirnish and carry on to Kyle of Lochalsh. Follow the sign in the village for the Balmacara road, which you will reach at the traffic lights. Turn left on to the Balmacara road (A87) and head for Dornie, passing through Reraig.
    or: head straight on up the hill, keeping to the left at the junction at the top. Head down, through Balmacara, and arrive at the A87. Turn left towards Dornie, passing through Reraig.
  Route note:  The last route is shorter but at night or in bad conditions, or with a caravan or larger vehicle, it may be preferrable to take the longer route via Kyle.
2. Drive through Dornie, with Eilean Donan Castle on your right. Continue on past Inverinate, Shiel Bridge, up through Glen Shiel, past the Cluny Hotel and Loch Cluny. After the end of the loch, watch for the turn off for Fort William. Turn right here and head up (still on the A87) past Loch Loyne and down past Loch Garry to Invergarry.
3. In Invergarry, turn right at the junction for Fort William (A82). Continue on to Laggan Bridge, over the Caledonian Canal, and head for Spean Bridge, with Loch Lochy and then the Commando Monument on your right.
4. Carry on through Spean Bridge and turn right at the junction for Fort William, still on the A82.
5. Drive through Fort William, heading south for Ballachulish, passing the exit for the Conan Ferry on the right and Onich.
6. Continue through North Balluchulish, cross the bridge over Loch Leve to South Ballachulish and, at the roundabout, turn left, still on the A82, for Glencoe village.
7. Carry on through Glencoe village, through the pass of Glencoe and over Rannoch Moor, past Bridge of Orchy and Tyndrum, heading for Crianlarich.
8. Pass through Crianlarich, leaving by the A85, direction Killin, heading for Lochearnhead.
9. Turn right for Lochearnead at the Lix junction, still on the A85.
10. Pass through Lochearnhead, turning right at the junction and leaving by the A84 for Callendar.
11. Drive through Strathyre, then past Loch Lubnaig on your right, and past the Falls of Lenny on your left, until you reach Callendar.
12. Pass straight through Callendar and head south, still on the A84 for Doune.
13. Continue through Doune, leaving by the A84 marked Stirling.
14. Join the M9 motorway at junction 10 and continue on the motorway, passing Stirling on your left, then Falkirk and Grangemouth, heading for Edinburgh.
15. Leave the motorway at the Newbridge roundabout, at the left hand exit marked Edinburgh.
16. Continue down the dual-carriageway Glasgow Road, passing Edinburgh Airport on your left. At the Gogar junction, dirve through the underpass, marked City Centre, and go straight ahead at the Maybury roundabout.
17. Head for the city centre, past Edinburgh Zoo on your left and Murrayfield Stadium Road. At Haymarket (Haymarket station on your right), continue straight on to the West End and Princes Street.
