Change of
Management |
| Keith and Diane Bennett of Haven West Coast Hotels
Ltd are pleased to announce the appointment of Ross Hamilton
to the position of General Manager of the Haven Hotel in Plockton.
Mr Hamilton brings to the Haven Hotel a wealth of experience,
having managed hotels both in Aberdeen and Edinburgh. In his
native Canada he grew up in a family hotel business. Prior to
emigrating to Scotland he was the Assistant General Manager
of a hospitality corporation that operated three hotels, two
restaurants and a leisure facility. |
| Asked why he had made the move to Scotland, Mr
Hamilton recalled his Granny Macaulay, born at Drumlanrig in
Dumfriess-shire, telling him that there were two kinds of Scots
in this world — those fortunate enough to be born here
and those smart enough to move here. Mr Hamilton looks forward
to immersing himself in the daily life of Plockton. Having a
keen passion for history and architecture, he is particularly
interested in safeguarding and nurturing the historic nature
of The Haven Hotel and the community of Plockton in general. |
| Please join us in welcoming Mr. Hamilton to The
Haven Hotel and to Plockton. |

Change of
Ownership |
| Ian and Ann James, owners of the Plockton Stores
and the in-shop Buttery, have given up the well-known Off the
Rails Restaurant (at the station). |
| The Plockton Stores shop area has moved over to
where the Buttery was. The old shop area is being redeveloped
as the Plockton Shores Restaurant. |
| The Plockton Shores will be open before the summer
season. Off the Rails will, we hope, also be open under new
ownership. Plockton Stores continues. |

Water Problems
for Burnside Development |
| To meet chronic low-cost housing needs in Plockton,
a site at the Station — Burnside — has been agreed
on and plans are underway for a 24-house development. |
| Now the project is under threat as Scottish Water
say they cannot guarantee enough water supply from the local
reservoir (Loch Achnanhinich) because of environmental concerns,
despite a recent infrastructure build. |

From Jason Rose, Scottish
Water |
“ . . . I see on your front page you have
a piece about the proposed housing development and say that
it's under threat from Scottish Water. As far as we are aware,
and we
have checked with senior Highland Council officials, there is
no threat — the completion of our investment to increase
the amount of water available is set to tie in with the completion
of the development. |
| This is just one example of Scottish Water working
with local authorities, developers and environmental bodies
to ensure that developments proceed in areas which, while famed
for their rainfall, are also very environmentally-sensitive.” |

From the minutes
of the Plockton Community Council, 7 November '06 |
| “With regard to the water situation for
Burnside and other new projects in the area, the CC will be
updated on work to be carried out in the Plockton area. A Will
had recently been informed that the supply for the Micro Brewery
project would be made available sooner than had been previously
expected. (Subsequent to the meeting Cllr Campbell had informed
the CC that the water for Burnside would be available in 2007).” |

will be responsible for installing all pipe work and related
infrastructure at their own cost, using their own contractors." |
