| A Twentieth-Century Life |
| This is the life story of a man who inhabited most of
the 20th century and a little beyond, including several decades of
association with Plockton. |
 |
Geoffrey was born in the English Midlands and was trained as an
artist in one of the oldest of applied arts, vitreous enammelling.
Having a strong instinct in mechanics, he was also interested in the
multiple modes of precision engineering facilities which made the
'Black Country' renowned as the 'Workshop of the World', and has tried
to record them here. |
| There is also here a social history reference of pre-war
industrial conditions in Britain and an attempt is made to chart the
progress made for ordinary folk throughout the course of the century. |
| Following a failed marriage, Geoffrey made a complete
change in lifestyle when he removed to Stromeferry in N W Scotland
and set up an enamelling studio in Achmore. |
| That was in 1969 and very soon he
was introduced to small boat sailing, and deserted his beloved mountains
for the sea, living aboard an 8 metre sailboat and cruising out of
his home port of Plockton around the west coast and the Hebridean
islands. |
 |
| 'A 20th Century Life' chronicles the great sea change
in Geoff's life, and follows his exploration of the magnificent seaboard
of N W Scotland. |
