We serve the same area as Plockton and District Community Council and work closely with other local organisations such as Plockton Harbour CIC, the Plockton Hall Committee and Kyle & Lochalsh Community Trust.
We have eight elected trustees and around 125 members.
We were incorporated as a SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation) in July 2020. This is a legal structure specifically designed to meet the needs of the voluntary and community-led sector in Scotland.
It provides limited liability and a separate legal identity. It is only available to organisations with charitable purposes. We are regulated by OSCR and subject to the Charities and Trustee Investment Act (Scotland) 2005.
We are a two tier SCIO. This means we are a membership organisation. We have three membership categories:
The ordinary members have voting rights and elect up to 9 trustees to sit on the Board from amongst their number. Thus, elected trustees must first be an ordinary member.
Our governing document allows the Board to appoint up to 3 co-opted trustees, so long as there remains a majority of trustees who are elected. Anyone can be co-opted as a trustee and elected and co-opted trustees each have equal voting rights; i.e. one vote per trustee.
One third of the elected trustees must stand down at each AGM and are able to re-stand for election. This allows for new people to be elected to the Board.
At present, the Trust only has elected trustees. These are unpaid, voluntary, positions.
