This arose from ongoing discussions, instigated by Plockton & District Community Council, regarding traffic and parking issues in Plockton during the busy visitor season. PDCT convened two round table discussions (Nov 2023 and March 2024) with key community organisation and the NTS to explore these issues.
With funding from North Highland Initiative and Plockton Inn we invited local organisations and tourism businesses to participate in a facilitated ‘Press Pause’ workshop in May 2024. This was followed by an interim report and a sense-checking session in August 2024, which was open to all, to agree the final report.
‘Press Pause ‘ is a place-based approach to destination development, management and promotion of tourism with businesses and community interests sitting round the same table. The report reflects what was discussed by the workshop attendees – this is the community’s views as to ‘what’s working’ and ‘what’s not working’.
SCOTO’s ambition is for communities to embrace community-led tourism as a force for good which enables the community to be an even better place to live, work and visit. It seeks to re-calibrate tourism to deliver for communities and the environment.
A Traffic and Tourism Plan
The SCOTO workshop has provided a solid foundation to move on to the next phase, which is to commission a Traffic and Tourism Plan for Plockton. We are currently (June 2025) consulting on the consultant’s brief with local organisations. Once agreed we will undertake a tendering exercise.
